Make way for Screendeath

Posted by 80sGuy |

I'm sure most of you have heard the Screendeath remix of MSTRKRFT - Click Click floating round the blogosphere and the charts on hypem at the moment, though some of you may not have yet heard Screendeath's own material.

Screendeath is an electronic/house producer from Northern Ireland, currently unsigned, who has been producing and remixing since mid-2008.

All I have to say is his own stuff is THE SHIT!

Enjoy!

There's going to be alot of quality new releases in the next few weeks so I thought I should make sure they don't slip under your radar with a round up of the best tracks coming your way soon.

First of all, Brighton's Natasha Khan a.k.a. Bat for Lashes is going to be touring her brand new album "Two Suns" in the next few months and it's an incredible evolution for her work, bettering her already excellent debut "Fur and Gold" and this opening track "Glass" gives you a taste of what you can expect. Sounding a tad like it should've come from Portishead's "Third" it's a haunting and beautiful drum epic.

Next onto Fever Ray. As many people know, I'm a huge huge huge fan of The Knife so I was pleased to hear that Karin was working on her own solo stuff and I wasn't disappointed. A blend of tribal beats, dark pop and hypnotic loops it's a joy to listen to. If you're into the mellower side of The Knife you'll love this. The videos are amazing epic mini dramas too, check them out.

Kingston based, Math-pop four piece Colour have just announced the release of a new single entitled "Unicorns" and it's been on constant repeat on my iTunes ever since I got ahold of it. An absolute joy to listen to, lyrics to make you smile, music to make you sway as well as dance. If you like Menos el Oso era Minus the Bear but with poppier refrains and sweeter vocals, you'll absolutely love these guys. Enjoy it and buy the single when it comes out these guys deserve your support. Sign up to their mailing list here and you can get an acoustic version of the track and a track from tour mates "Data. Select. Party" too!

Next onto an artist who should need no introduction, the prolific genre-less Patrick Apps a.k.a. Patrick Wolf has a brand new album entitled "Battle" a double disk epic crossing between themes of love and war and
everything in between I've been eagerly anticipating this for some time and having heard some of the new songs at his Shepherd's Bush show in the summer, I for one, can't wait. Having been dropped from his major label for being a "trouble-maker" an industry by-word for not adhering to their idea of how to promote him or the direction his music should take (did any of us seriously think him on a major label would work out?) he has been eagerly promoting bandstocks.com where the album is basically financed by contributions from fans. Every person who contributes £10 or more gets a 'stock' in the album and a credit in the sleeve, if you want to part of the creation of what is shaping up to be an incredible body of work then go here, where you can also listen to a sampler of tracks off the album OR alternatively you can download a higher quality (higher not high unfortunately) version right here

Foals should be a band fairly familiar to you but their new material may not be what you'd expect from the Oxford math-rockers. Following on from their highly successful debut antidotes and unavoidable and catchy single "Hummer" they've taken a different route to producing more of the same and seemingly taken a trip into post-rock territory with new song Glaciers. A swirling combo of distant drums and haunting, textured loops it's definitely not what you'd expect from the guys who brought you "Cassius"

And finally, Lighthouses are a two piece electro act from Berkshire who weave dance, rock, electro and more to create a sound unlike anything you've ever heard. Described as "Justice meets David Bowie crossed with Bloc Party" they have to be heard! This song Twitch is a future hit you wait and see. Currently working on a proper demo to be released in the near future they're playing their second ever London show at the mighty Monto Water Rats in Kings Cross, London on the 9th of April. Go check them out!

That's all for now!

So February celebrates the return of the MIGHTY Bloody Beetroots to the shores of the UK and London in particular (it's been over half a year since they destroyed the now defunct Sin Club just off Oxford Street p.s. FUCK YOU CROSSRAIL) and this time they're returning to Egg Club in Kings Cross on February 27th with London's awesome Punks Jump Up; I, for one, cannot wait. 2009 so far has been a good year for electro and house and with MSTRKRFT releasing their hotly anticipated second album "Fist of God" soon, Shadow Dancer releasing his long awaited debut "Golden Traxe" next monday (23rd of February) and Yuksek's "Away from the sea" on constant repeat since its release earlier this month there's been little let up of quality tracks to get ahold of and with the new Tiga album on the way it looks like the best is yet to come. Just like to make an honourable mention to Boy Boy's excellent remix of Congorock's (already brilliant) Exodus. Check it out! As much as I don't want to mention it, Scottish electro twerp Calvin Harris has caught a whiff of the inevitable (in my opinion) trance revival of 2009 (Thanks Deadmau5) and has put out his new song "I'm not alone" that I WANT to hate with all my heart but it literally gets to me every time. Damn you Harris. Roll on summer. So ignore the relentless cold outside and warm yourself up to these future summer anthems.
